HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) —
Some fitness experts say that knowing your metabolic rate may be the secret to effective weight-loss through exercise.
Most would think that the more you sweat and burn, the more you’ll lose.
“I thought the harder the work, the more you sweat, the more you will lose,” said Kimberly Combs. “But I found that I was going slower than I’ve ever gone in my whole life and the weight was just coming off!”
Forget no pain, no gain. Combs lost weight without most of the pain on The Plan.
“I lost about 17 pounds,” said Combs.
Precision Health Design of High Point coined The Plan as one of their weight-loss programs. Part of the program includes testing your metabolic rate.
“You get two metabolic evaluations so we can tell you how many calories your body burns and how many calories you need to eat to lose weight,” said Donna Lewis.
Lewis said that those evaluations give you the secret number to put you on a path to weight-loss.
“You have to understand your metabolism to know what food will do for you; and what food will do to you,” said Lewis.
While Combs dons a bright blue mask, Lewis and the computer measure her heart rate.
“Measuring the amount of oxygen that she takes in and the amount of carbon dioxide that she produces,”
The information will ultimately let a person know when they burn the most body fat rather than just blood sugar.
“If you go really hard, chances are you’re using your blood sugar,” said Lewis. “People want to burn body fat.”
To burn the most body fat, Combs keeps her heart rate in a certain metabolic number range while she exercises.
The test only takes about 20 minutes to complete.
As part of The Plan, Combs also attends weekly classes for weigh-ins and nutrition advice.
“I think it helps a lot of people,” said Combs. “It definitely helped me.”
Those who are interested can currently schedule metabolic testing for the next session of The Plan.
